Glycogen

Glycogen

In this cell, there are large pools of glycogen (G). The glycogen is present as 15 to 30 nanometer electron dense particles. (beta glycogen). Alpha glycogen occurs as rosettes. In some preparations, the glycogen may be extracted from the cell and only a clear space is seen.

Glycogen is present in adenomas and carcinomas with clear cells. e.g.

  • Clear cell carcinonoma of the kidney
  • Ewing's sarcoma
  • Parathyroid adenomas
  • Hepatocellular carcinoma
  • "Sugar Tumor" of the lung.
  • Clear cell sarcoma
  • Melanomas
