Microvilli

Microvilli (M) are extensions of the cell surface. These microvilli are typical of the microvilli in the normal enterocyte. Each microvillus is associated with a central, dense core of actin filaments. Glycocalyceal bodies (arrow) and tight junctions are other features of these enterocytes.

Microvilli are found in the lumina of neoplastic and benign glands. Long thin microvilli are characteristic of benign and neoplastic mesothelial cells. microvilli must be distinguished from filopodia thin, cell surface projections that are present in the intercellular spaces.
